‘Robot’ bought for Rs 30 Cr

Sun Pictures that is producing Rajnikant - Shankar’s magnum opus, Robot, has finally sold off its theatrical rights in Andhra Pradesh. While several top producers from Tollywood tried to bag the film, Sun Pictures didn’t step down from its asking price Rs 30Cr. Chadalavada Brothers who produced several films in Telugu and bought distribution rights of several other Telugu and Hollywood films in the past paid this whopping amount. They clinched the deal by paying highest ever price for a Tamil film’s rights.

Although Sun Pictures is saying the movie is made in Tamil and Telugu, it is essentially a Tamil movie. And buying dubbing rights at a cost of Rs 30 Crores is unheard of before. But Chadalavada Brothers believe the brand Shankar (who has huge following as all his films are blockbusters in Telugu) and Rajnikant and Aishwarya’s pairing would fetch the film collections like a big budgeted Telugu film. It is a huge risk, if it really clicks, the dividends would be equally good.
